Roslin Institute, Easter Bush campus, University of Edinburgh

2010

Home of Dolly the first cloned sheep in the world, the new 8,000m2 Roslin Institute is shaped like a chromosome to reflect the institute’s work with animals. We built in fully glazed open-plan offices, laboratory areas and highly regulated experiment chambers to avoid contamination. The Roslin Institute allows scientists to lead international research into a range of animal related studies that have evolved from the development of GM chickens which don’t transmit bird flu to strategies for combating a viral disease in Atlantic salmon.

The Angel Building, London

2010

BAM transformed the Angel Building from a humdrum 1980s office block into an attractive, BREEAM Excellent, sustainable and thoroughly contemporary building. We increased the floor area by 60%, rewrapped the original concrete frame with an extremely energy-efficient glazed skin which has also extended the building’s envelope and greatly improved its fit with its surroundings.
