BAM Construction is to build a £14 million school on the site of the former Don Valley athletics stadium in Sheffield.
The contractor, which has offices in Leeds, will create the facility for 1,200 pupils aged two to 16.

The single building will feature a four-storey secondary school, a two-storey primary school and a central hub to be used for events.

Pupils will benefit from modern, state-of-the-art learning spaces, while the facility will help tackle a demographic need for more school places.

BAM is to complete the main build in under a year, with clever design to minimise time needed on site.

The scheme is targeting a rating of Very Good through sustainability initiative BREEAM.

BAM will seek to use local suppliers where possible. The contractor recently built Shirecliffe and Fir Vale primary schools for Sheffield City Council.

“It is great to build on our excellent relationship with the council on this prestigious job.

“We look forward to writing a new and exciting chapter in the history of the former Don Valley stadium site.

“We will use all our skills and experience to create a school the community can be proud of.”

Kelvin Pollard

Construction Director

“We have been working incredibly hard with our partners to develop plans for this exciting new Academy for two-to-16 year olds.

“It will be a fantastic place to learn for Sheffield’s children and young people for generations to come. We are looking forward to seeing building work begin, and ultimately, developing strong links with the community.”

Jackie Drayton

Cabinet member for children, young people and families at Sheffield City Council

BAM has just begun work on site, and the school will welcome pupils in September 2015.

The contractor has undertaken a series of major education and health projects in Sheffield in the past decade, including the Arts Tower, the Information Commons Building, and a laboratory rationalisation project for Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.

On the border with Rotherham, BAM recently delivered the new Advanced Blade Casting Facility for Rolls-Royce.
