Flexible lifestyle accommodation

BAM developed a new retirement village in Witney, known as Coral Springs, to provide three types of retirement living.

It’s hard to predict how individuals will be affected in later life, but not all people will need 24/7 care. That’s why we built 79 independent living unit apartments dispersed over two and three storey blocks. We paid close attention to the roof detail to make them feel like big welcoming homes with private balconies. And we built them to the Code for Sustainable Homes to make sure they are energy-efficient.

We also built a BREEAM Very Good central care home, with 46 assisted living suites on the ground and second floors for those who need part-time care. And on the first floor, there are 60 care beds, with nearby 24-hour nursing and dementia care.

Luxury living facilities

After years of working, the residents of Coral Springs should feel pampered. That’s why we built a wellness spa with a pool, two treatment rooms and a hairdressers. The local water table is high, and we had to dig down to form the swimming pool. But with our vast experience in building leisure centres, it was nothing we couldn’t handle.

We also built an arts and crafts room, a bowling green and a gym so residents have plenty to do on site. Surrounded by beautiful homes and landscaped gardens, all in the secure Coral Springs Village.

Building for dementia and later life care

Making sure the right buildings are in place to accommodate people in later life is essential. 85,000 people currently live with dementia in the UK, and this is set to rise to more than two million by 2051. That’s why we are already making developments like Coral Springs dementia friendly.

We work closely with the architect to create dementia friendly spaces that help with navigation. We also make sure those less mobile can get around the Village easily, and put access systems in place to keep residents safe.
