Wondering where an Apprenticeship at BAM might lead? Read our interview with Aleksandra Nidzwiecka to discover more.

With National Apprentice Week just round the corner we spoke to Aleksandra Nidzwiecka, who enrolled in a 5-year Construction Degree Apprenticeship, currently Studying Level 6 Quantity Surveying at Sheffield Hallam University.

What apprenticeship are you currently enrolled on to (including level)?

I’m enrolled in a 5-year Construction Degree Apprenticeship, currently Studying Level 6 Quantity Surveying at Sheffield Hallam University

What site are you on?

Right now, I’m working on Chiltern Hills Academy 2, which includes one new block build, two-block extensions, and three-block refurbishment all with sectional completion, supporting the school with their expansion.

What does your day-to-day role involve?

My day-to-day role consists of the procurement of trade packages, which includes sending out tenders and creating comparisons with subcontractors. While the subcontractor is on-site, I manage them commercially, undertaking subcontractor monthly applications as well as all formal site instructions and communications. In conjunction, I work on the monthly Main Works Valuation for the client.

What do you enjoy about your role?

Within my role I learn something new every day, expanding my knowledge for future projects. I love being able to see all the stages of construction from pre-construction right through to the finish while being part of the team who helped to build it.

What are you planning to do next e.g. Degree apprenticeship?

I plan to graduate with a degree in Quantity Surveying at Sheffield Hallam University and to continue growing my experience in project surveying, working my way up to becoming a Project Surveyor/ Commercial Manager.
