Constructing Excellence and BAM are staging a fringe meeting at the Conservative Party Conference at lunchtime on Sunday 2 October 2011 to promote the economic benefits of sustainable construction.   The speakers will be: Dr Peter Bonfield, Chief Executive, BRE Martyn Hulme, Managing Director, Co-operative Estates, The Co-operative Group Ian Reeves CBE, Chairman Constructing Excellence and Chairman, McGee Group Chair   Venue: Midland Hotel, Manchester Time: 12.45 – 2.00pm Refreshments available.   The built environment accounts globally for around a third of CO2 emissions and about 30-40% of total energy use.   Increasing energy costs and the introduction of carbon taxes such as the Carbon Reduction Commitment, means sustainable buildings will help the bottom line directly.   BAM and Constructing Excellence want to stimulate awareness and debate about the contribution Government can make by renewing its own estate and incentivising sustainable energy-efficient building.
