Every day, we are exposed to an endless stream of opinions, headlines, commentary, and online reactions that shape how we see the world. Social media platforms, 24-hour news cycles, and online culture can often encourage quick judgement rather than genuine understanding. Over time, this can create distance between people, turning individuals into assumptions or stereotypes.

On every project, every second counts. Not because people are rushing, but because things are constantly changing throughout the working day. On major energy infrastructure projects, civil engineering works, lifting operations, electrical installation, cable works, concrete operations, heavy plant movements and specialist commissioning activities can all be taking place across the site at the same time.

I’ve got two young daughters, so coming home safe and well every day is really important to me. That’s something I carry with me throughout the day because everyone working on site has people waiting for them at home too. Whether they are a parent, a son, a daughter, a partner or a best friend, there is a responsibility to make sure everyone goes home safe and well at the end of the day.

We know the state nature is in. And we know what works. So why don’t we see more nature in our built environment?

Construction has always been an industry where potential becomes visible through experience. When people are given responsibility and exposed to real challenges, you begin to see what they can achieve. That is something I have had the privilege of witnessing many times through the teams I have worked with at BAM.

The Chancellor’s Spring Statement landed at a moment of acute uncertainty. Global instability, rising inflationary pressures and renewed volatility in energy markets are once again exposing the UK to external shocks. Ongoing volatility in global energy markets could place further upward pressure on energy prices, a reminder that the cost-of-living crisis is not yet behind us but evolving.

When I finished school, I knew I wanted to study a degree, but I wasn’t sure the traditional university route was the right path for me. I’d already juggled school and part-time work, and the two never felt connected. I wanted a route where learning, earning, and professional development moved forward together.

When I think back to my childhood, some of my happiest memories are of wandering through the countryside, surrounded by butterflies and ladybirds, completely fascinated by the life all around me.
