New diagnostic centres improve access to care

Two new Community Diagnostic Centres delivered by BAM are now welcoming patients in Manchester and Plymouth, helping expand access to diagnostic services and bringing care closer to the communities they serve.

The centres have been developed in partnership with their respective NHS trusts and represent a significant increase in local diagnostic capacity. They will support earlier diagnosis, reduce pressure on acute hospitals and make it easier for patients to access the tests and scans they need closer to home.

At Withington Community Hospital in Manchester, the new centre will deliver around 129,000 diagnostic tests every year. The facility brings together a wide range of services in one purpose built setting, helping to improve access for patients across Greater Manchester and reduce demand on hospitals.

In Plymouth, the city’s new Community Diagnostic Centre has also opened its doors to patients. The facility provides CT, MRI, X-ray and ultrasound imaging, alongside a broad range of diagnostic services including cardiology, respiratory, vascular, neurophysiology, blood tests and audiology. The centre will deliver around 91,600 tests and scans each year, supporting improved access to diagnostics for communities across Devon and Cornwall.

While serving different regions, both centres share a common purpose: enabling patients to receive vital diagnostic tests more quickly in modern, accessible community based facilities. By expanding diagnostic capacity outside acute hospital settings, they will help support earlier diagnosis and improve patient experience for thousands of people each year.

The opening of both facilities marks another step in improving healthcare provision in England by creating modern environments that will support patients, clinicians and local communities for years to come.
