The new Eastern Entrance is expected to be used by around 2.5 million passengers a year by 2030, providing a direct new connection between the Grade I-listed station and the growing Bristol Temple Quarter.

The opening is a significant milestone in the wider transformation of Bristol Temple Meads and Temple Quarter, one of the UK’s most ambitious urban regeneration programmes. Plans for the area include 10,000 new homes and 22,000 new jobs, alongside the University of Bristol’s new campus and improved connections between the station and surrounding communities.

BAM UK & Ireland delivered the new entrance by extending the station’s existing passenger subway beneath platforms 13 and 15. The complex works involved excavation through existing structures within the historic station, while working alongside an operational railway and the development of the neighbouring university campus.

“For our team, delivering a new connection through a Grade I-listed station required careful planning and meticulous engineering. The result is an entrance that will make the station easier to access for millions of passengers, connecting people to the new opportunities being created across Temple Quarter.”

"Bristol Temple Meads has been at the heart of the city since it opened in 1840, and this new entrance ensures it will play an even greater role in its future. By connecting the railway directly to the Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus and one of the UK's most exciting innovation districts, we’re connecting new jobs, investment and economic growth to the rest of the West and beyond.
