BAM has been awarded its first contract under the new Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment (ASTI) framework, in a joint venture with Siemens Energy, to deliver the new Greens substation in Aberdeenshire for SSEN Transmission.

BAM will play a central role in delivering the new 400kV substation which will strengthen Scotland’s electricity transmission network and enable the connection of renewable energy to homes
and businesses across the UK.

The scheme marks an important milestone in the transition to clean energy, with the project agreed under the new ASTI framework, designed to accelerate the planning and construction of grid infrastructure across the UK.

The Greens substation scheme forms part of SSEN Transmission’s wider £29bn investment to upgrade the electricity transmission network across the north of Scotland, supporting the growth of clean energy while delivering jobs, infrastructure and long-term economic benefits for communities across the region.

Paul Cooley, Director of Onshore Capital Delivery at SSEN Transmission, commented:

“The signing of this contract with BAM and Siemens Energy marks a major step forward for our Greens substation project, and we are delighted to be working in partnership to deliver this vital infrastructure.

“Our focus is on delivering real benefits for local communities, from jobs and apprenticeships to opportunities for local businesses across the north-east, with several already engaged in the project.

“We are also committed to leaving a lasting legacy through community benefit funding and investment in local housing and infrastructure, including new homes in Turriff.

“This project will strengthen the network for the transition to clean energy, and we look forward to main construction getting underway this summer once early works are complete.”
