Slavery and human trafficking are crimes and a violation of human rights. At BAM, we have a zero-tolerance approach to slavery and human trafficking.
Slavery and human trafficking involve the deprivation of a person's liberty by another in order to exploit them for personal or commercial gain and encompasses practices such as: forced labour (i.e. involuntary work coerced by threatening behaviour); the sale and exploitation of children and other vulnerable groups; and arranging or enabling the trafficking of persons.
Section 54 of the UK Modern Slavery Act states that all UK businesses with a global annual turnover of £36 million must report on the steps they are taking to tackle modern slavery. The below statements have been published in accordance with the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and set out the steps taken across the BAM UK & Ireland division to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in its business and supply chains.
