BAM Construction has been appointed as lead contractor to deliver 100 Embankment, the second and final phase of the Embankment scheme in Salford’s Greengate neighbourhood.

The news follows the annoucement last week that Tristan Capital Partners and joint venture partners Ask Real Estate and the Richardson Family have finalised the forward funding agreement with Salford City Council which will trigger the start of work on site.  Carillion was originally lined up to deliver the second Embankment building but Ask initiated its contingency plans and commenced discussions with BAM earlier in the year when it became clear that a new contractor would be needed.

100 Embankment is scheduled for delivery in early 2020 and work will now start on site.

The 9 storey 166,000 sq ft BREEAM Excellent Grade A office building will sit alongside sister building, 101 Embankment, which is now the headquarter offices of Swinton Insurance Group.  Located on the site of Manchester’s historic Exchange Station and overlooking the city’s Cathedral, the development sits at the heart of the joint city centres.

“We are extremely pleased to be selected as construction partner to deliver 100 Embankment on this historic city centre site.

“Our deeply embedded collaborative culture and technological skills mean we are ideally suited to creating a building with a sustainability rating of BREEAM Excellent.

“It is equally important that we are able to add social value, working with local supply chains and assisting with life opportunities such as apprenticeships.”

Regional Director, BAM Construction

The City Mayor of Salford, Paul Dennett also said: “The announcement that BAM is in place to drive forward the delivery of 100 Embankment means we can start to focus on securing an occupier which will deliver hundreds of additional jobs which is great news for the City of Salford.”

On behalf of the Joint Venture, John Hughes, Managing Director of Ask Real Estate said: “We are delighted to be working with BAM who have extensive experience and are well respected in the industry.  The fact that they have been able to meet our complex requirements within such a short space of time is testament to their solid credentials."

Located opposite Manchester Cathedral Embankment stands above a 442-space underground car park operated by Q-Park, and is fringed by retail and workspace units.  The location offers a wide range of retail, cultural and leisure opportunities and is well-served by a range of public transport options, with Victoria Station and Metrolink in close proximity.

CBRE and Cushman & Wakefield are the retained agents for Embankment.
