Frequently asked questions
If you're interested in our graduate scheme then have a look through the FAQs we get asked along with our answers and advice.
What can I expect to learn?
We offer a competitive starting salary and, along with a bonus scheme, our excellent benefits package can include pension, private healthcare, life assurance, car/allowance, subsidised gym membership, career–break options (after qualifying period), 25 days holiday and access to the Making Time volunteering scheme.
Can you tell me about the learning and development I will receive?
You will follow a structured development programme which combines management and technical skills with personal development.
Our Learning and Development team will support you all the way, as will your line managers, supervisors and external assessors. The aim is to steer you to a professional qualification, typically with the CIOB or RICS.
How do I apply?
We only accept applications on line.
You will be asked to register and create your BAM profile. Your unique log-in details will give you access to your secure profile. You can view and update your profile information at any time.
You will also be able to view and complete applications when it is convenient, review all emails sent to you regarding applications, and subscribe to receive emails about new positions.
How long do you keep my details for?
We may hold your details for up to three years. When you submit any application to us, we will specifically ask you whether you agree to this. However, we advise you to submit a fresh application for each vacancy you are interested in.
When can I expect to hear back after submitting my application?
We will send you an immediate confirmation email to acknowledge your application. We will then contact you at each stage of the recruitment process to update you on the status of your application.
If you are applying for our graduate, trainee or industrial placement schemes, our selection process may not start until the spring. You may experience a delay in the recruitment process following your application if this is the case.
What sort of person are you looking for?
We're looking for motivated and ambitious individuals who are either studying for or planning to study for a construction-related qualification. We also consider graduates from a non-construction background, who have transferable skills.
What does the selection process for the graduate and trainee programmes involve?
We use a combination of telephone and face-to-face interviews with regional assessment events. You will get the chance to meet operational line managers as part of the selection process.
Which universities and colleges do you recruit from?
We have relationships with leading universities and colleges across the UK and Ireland. Please see our Recruitment events page for details of upcoming careers fairs and campus events.
What should I wear to interview/assessment events?
For all face-to-face interviews, business dress is suitable.
What is your policy on refunding interview expenses?
Unfortunately we cannot refund any expenses associated with getting to your interview.
What is your policy on work permits?
We can only consider applications from those who are eligible to work in the UK.
Please check your eligibility before applying to us.
Where can I expect to be located when I join BAM?
Depending on your job role, you will be either site or office based. In the majority of cases, you will be located in the region you live in. However, exact locations for periods of work placements will depend on project availability and could be based in any of our operating regions.
Are there opportunities to work abroad?
BAM is part of a global organisation: Royal BAM Group, which employs around 28,000 people worldwide. BAM positively promotes internal mobility of staff across group companies. However, we only recruit for UK based positions at the moment.
What is your approach to diversity and inclusion?
We believe that it actively helps our business to develop a workforce that reflects the diversity of our customer base and the communities in which we operate. Please download our Diversity policy for more details.
