BAM awarded £7.9m Plymouth UTC scheme

15 Jun, 2012

More success in Plymouth for BAM as it grows its work in hand to over £50 million.

BAM Construction has been awarded a £7.9 million contract to create Plymouth University Technical College (UTC).

The company will transform the currently closed Parkside School on Park Avenue, Devonport, into a modern learning facility for the city.

BAM construction manager Graham Kingdon said: ‘BAM is delighted to have the opportunity to use its skills and experience to transform the disused Parkside school in Devonport to create a new UTC aligned with its specialism of marine engineering and advanced manufacturing, and to help regenerate the area.

‘Modern workspaces will replace traditional classrooms to engender a work ethos and help develop an extremely employable workforce for Plymouth.

‘A number of flexible workshop spaces will provide state-of-the-art engineering facilities, while BAM will also deliver other flexible teaching spaces, catering and dining areas and specialist science labs.

‘To reinvigorate learning in this area of the city, we are remodelling and re-cladding the retained areas of the existing buildings as well as making a significant investment in new build.’

BAM is working on projects totalling more than £50 million in Plymouth this year, having also secured Plymouth Marine Academy and Plymouth All Saints Academy recently.
