Philip Rowley takes over as BAM’s Director of Health and Safety as Frank Garnett retires

22 Oct, 2009

Philip Rowley has been appointed as BAM Construct UK’s Director of Health and Safety with immediate effect following the retirement of Frank Garnett. His role covers all the UK construction activities as well as BAM’s other businesses such as facilities management and property. Philip will succeed Frank Garnett in representing BAM at industry level.

Philip has had a distinguished career in construction management having been the overall CIOB Construction Manager of the Year in 1998. He is now one of the CIOB judges for the prestigious awards.

Joining BAM 25 years ago and working in the London and South East regions on a stream of complex and high profile projects, Philip has recently been advising on construction methodology and overall programme management at Kings Cross Central, one of Europe’s largest and most significant regeneration projects. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Building and a Chartered Environmentalist.

He said,

‘This is a challenging role but one which is already in excellent shape. I am looking forward to building on our success in this area and in making BAM a zero harm company.’

BAM’s injury rate is one of the industry’s lowest and despite increasing its employees by over 50% in the five years between 2003 and 2008, accidents have reduced by 48%.
