BAM works closely in our sector and with clients, suppliers, employees, and the local communities in which we operate to ensure that we continually shape our services and capacity to meet their needs.
We benchmark our activities using Business in the Community’s Corporate Responsibility Index. In 2011 we were very pleased to achieve a Gold rating. We were also the highest ranked major contractor in the Sunday Times Best Companies to work for, and were placed at number 14 in the Sunday Times Best Green Companies listing.
BAM's determination to address environmental and social impacts is shown in our first-class performance in the industry-wide, independently audited Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS). All our construction sites register with the scheme. With an overall average of 35.07/40, we continue to exceed the national industry average of 32.23.
We use these external benchmarks and tools to measure our progress. Further details of how we build partnerships can be found within our Sustainability Report.
BAM Construct UK's overall sustainability strategy is overseen by BAM’s Sustainability Committee. It is chaired by Richard Bailey, board member and Managing Director of our construction business. Responsibility for sustainability is shared across all levels of BAM, from our CEO, to all employees in the company. Our Sustainability Committee reviews activities by working groups, health & safety, environment and community co-ordinators in all our operations.
BAM Construct UK aims for the highest standards of integrity in how it does business. This begins with a culture within the organisation that prioritises honest and fair dealing. It is backed up by our formal Business Ethics and Competition Law Policies. The company has internal control procedures for all staff. Employees are responsible at all times for acting with honesty and integrity, as well as safeguarding the resources for which they are responsible.
BAM Construct UK does not make financial contributions to political parties. Its corporate lobbying is transparent and conducted mostly through sector specific organisations. Our aim is to develop best practice in the construction and property sector.
