Community engagement

Community engagementMaking a positive contribution to the communities where we work has always been central part of the company’s ethos and how we do business.

Our community engagement activities range from promoting local employment and procurement, skills and training for site operatives, providing learning and employability opportunities for students and teachers, fundraising, mentoring, and delivering physical, tangible projects. BAM’s community involvement helps to transform communities.

Our sites are supported by a network of community champions and regional education coordinators who implement innovative programmes that engage young people providing tangible learning outcomes. They include site visits, work-based projects, classroom activities, support for curriculum delivery and work experience.

Our Making TIME for Communities programme, provides a focus for our charitable giving, fundraising, in-kind support and volunteering activities.TIME stands for:

    Making Time
  • Training and local employment
  • Inclusion
  • Motivating our people
  • Education

We provide each employee with two days paid time off per year to volunteer during working hours on activities focused on our key themes. Our volunteering programme supports the implementation of the policy. We also match employees fundraising activities through our regional sports and social clubs.

We measure our contribution to the community through the LBG Model. Further details about our community engagement programme and our corporate charity partnerships can be found in our 2010 Sustainability Report.
